THE 7-STEP RECIPE TO CONNECT
WITH YOUR DAUGHTER AND GUIDE
HER TOWARD HEALTHY EATING, A
STRONG SELF-ESTEEM & A
POSITIVE BODY IMAGE
Home-Study Program

Dear Fellow Mom,

Do any of these thoughts or scenarios sound familiar to you?

  1. You’ve struggled with obsessing about your eating or your weight or constant dieting, and you don’t want to pass on this struggle to your daughter

  2. You had a mom who meant well, but didn’t always say the right thing to support your self-esteem or positive feelings about your body…and you want to make sure that your daughter doesn’t experience that kind of judgment (in fact, you’d like her to feel really close to you and trust you with her worries and concerns)

  3. You’re aware of the constant bombardment of negative images in the media, and you know your daughter is noticing them too, but you’re just not sure how to protect her from them so she doesn’t buy into them

  4. You KNOW you should be eating more healthfully and taking better care of yourself, yet you’re not quite sure how to get going

  5. You have a family history of eating issues or obesity, and you see that your daughter has some of those tendencies, and you want to protect her from going down that road

  6. You’re sick and tired of feeling deprived around food, and would love to finally feel like you can eat well and nourish your body…and pass that experience on to your daughter

  7. You really want your daughter to feel great about herself and be who she’s supposed to be in the world, without holding back because she feels insecure, ashamed, or afraid

Think For a Moment, What It’s Costing You
& Your Daughter...

...by not being clear and feeling sure about how to negotiate these concerns.  What it’s costing your confidence level? Her comfort in her own skin?  Her health? Her feelings of connection with you? (and yours with her)

You know how important you are to her, and you know how important your own relationship was with your mom.  You know there are things you want to do and be for your daughter, yet there are SO MANY confusing messages out there…Aaakk…no wonder it’s so hard to figure it all out!

Yet you owe it to yourself – and to your daughter – to learn how to feel more at ease and confident in your own body and with food; more aware of the messages she sees and hears and how she internalizes those messages; and more present to yourself and to her so you are able to feel nourished – and help her feel nourished – with food, with her body, and in all areas in her life.

I’m really excited to share more details with you about my 7-Step Home Study Program, which will help support and guide you in these areas, but first let me share a little history with you.

The Next Generation of Girls
(and Current Generation of Women)
Need Our Commitment

Why the heck am I so committed to helping the next generation of girls – and the current generation of women – experience peace, nourishment and joy in their relationship to food and their bodies?

Well, as you may know, I suffered myself for years with a destructive relationship to food, and a discomfort in my body that made me feel insecure, that held me back from really being myself, and that kept me in a cycle of disgust and self-sabotage.  It wasn’t until I truly healed from that experience that I could finally be myself, live the life I came here to live, and experience true freedom from the self-imposed prison of struggle and angst.

And I see women and girls EVERY DAY who experience similar struggles.  Whether it’s a full-blown eating disorder, or overeating or obesity or constant dieting and counting calories or the same 10-20 pounds that she just keeps beating herself up about…these girls and women are caught in a cycle that doesn’t allow them the freedom, nourishment and peace that I know is possible.

Because here’s the thing I know: We are all here to live FULL LIVES as our true selves on this planet. Struggles around weight; obsessing about food; and self-hate and self-sabotage hold us back, and they are simply not necessary.

I'm a Mom to a Daughter Too

As a mom of a daughter, there is nothing more I want than to see her grow up living her FULL LIFE, being true to herself and feeling great in her body and who she is. And I am guessing this is what you want for your daughter too.

Dieting, eating disorders, chronic overeating and hating one’s body do not make that kind of freedom possible.

For 15 years, I have helped women and girls shed these struggles. Move from self-hate to self-care; from dieting to nourishment; and from feeling trapped in the same old struggles to feeling the freedom to make choices from a new place of self-care and respect.  I have also been there myself, so I know first hand how it’s done.

And I’m no different than you…I’m a mom, I’m a daughter, and through my own personal work and my work with hundreds of women and girls, I’ve learned the key ingredients we moms need to support our daughters around these issues.

And the best part is, I have written it all up, recorded it, created worksheets, and a support system so I can support you too.

That’s Where My 7-Step Recipe Comes In

The 7-Step Recipe to Connect with Your Daughter and Guide her toward Healthy Eating, a Strong Self-Esteem, and a Positive Body Image is now a home-study program.

Because I’m only one person, with two kids and a family and other responsibilities, I can only see a limited number of people in my practice. And I want to serve more people, help more moms, and reach more girls in the next generation, so they don’t have to suffer the way many of us have.

Enough body hatred! Enough self-sabotage! Enough playing small and hiding behind struggles!!

So here’s what you’ll learn in this powerful program:

How to transform your own mindset around eating, and support your daughter in having a mindset of nourishment as well

Key factors to a delicious trust-filled connection with your daughter (so she turns to YOU when she’s struggling and for guidance)

How to “be the change” you want to see in your daughter and take manageable action steps toward that vision in a clear, step-by-step way

How to figure out what your brain and your daughter’s brain needs to minimize cravings, maximize mood, and support good health

How supporting your daughter’s brain chemistry is key for enhancing her mood, decreasing her cravings and helping her feel satisfied and nourished

How to make your home a safe haven for your daughter, by dealing with the influx of the media and other outside pressures

How to support your daughter’s authenticity and feeling “full” of herself

What to say to your daughter so she becomes her own authority on her hunger and fullness... and how to help her know what fills her up with food and in other areas of her life

What to say and do to help her feel good in the body she has and to treat this body well

I see so much unnecessary suffering every day. Girls and women who are holding back from expressing their truest selves because of concerns about their bodies, or what others will think. Girls and women vascillating between dieting and binging (or living in fear of binging) and.not being able to experience the true deliciousness of their bodies and their lives. Moms and daughters who want so badly to connect with each other, but just don’t quite know how to talk about the tough stuff.

So here’s a bit about the Ingredients in this “Recipe” and what you’ll learn:

Ingredient 1:  Be The Change

You already know that your daughter needs you to show her - not just tell her - how to live peacefully, joyfully, and healthfully in a woman's body. She looks to you to guide her on this often-confusing path.

The 7-Step Recipe will:

  1. Help you identify the most important steps you need to take to “be the change” for your daughter (and the byproduct? You’ll experience renewed wellbeing as a result!)

  2. Help you make steady movement forward, without overwhelm, toward these changes…with confidence

  3. Support you in reducing guilt and increasing awareness and peace of mind

  4. Help you make choices from a new place of awareness rather than from a habitual place

Ingredient 2:  Shifting to a Mindset of Nourishment

Did you know that a recent survey showed that 40% of 9 & 10 year old girls have already been on a diet? And did you know that diets don’t work? Studies show that most people gain MORE weight than they started with, after going off a diet.  And almost all of my clients tell me that their struggles with food and eating BEGAN with their first diet!!

WE want our daughters to learn to feed themselves with nourishment and kindness, both with food and in other areas of their lives.

The 7-Step Recipe will help you:

  • End dieting for good

  • Learn the meaning of true nourishment and begin to DO IT

  • Teach your daughter about the importance of nourishing herself

  • Teach your daughter to treat herself with kindness and feed herself from this place

Ingredient 3:  Brain Food

Let’s face it: most of what we’re being taught about nutrition is wrong (yes, including the Food Pyramid!).  Most of what we’re taught and what most people are eating is not supporting (and, in fact, is depleting) your body or your brain.  Brains need to be fed well!

The 7-Step Recipe will:

  • Teach you which foods best feed your brain (for reduced cravings, improved mood, and greater ease with food) and your daughter’s brain (and which don’t)

  • Guide you as you look through your cabinets, read labels, and replace “depleting” food with nourishing food

  • Give you an introduction to supplements that may support your brain

  • Share recipes, menus and grocery lists full of brain-nourishing foods!

I have become aware of my daughter’s “bigness” [self-esteem] and have been promoting it by encouraging her to pursue her dreams.

This program (Dishing With Your Daughters – 4-week teleseminar) was great! I loved all the content Karen provided and only wish the class could have been longer!

As a result of participating, I have already made several important changes: First of all, I have become aware of my daughter’s “bigness” [self-esteem] and have been promoting it by encouraging her to pursue her dreams. I have also been really focusing on our mother-daughter connection, using many of Karen’s suggestions and ideas; I know this will help as she gets older and needs my support – rather than seeing me as someone who is pushing her, she will see me as her ally and supporter. This has really helped me worry less and has strengthened my relationship with my daughter.

I have also continued to stock my home with nourishing foods, while eliminating unhealthy stuff. Karen’s discussions about “brain food” and nourishment were some of my favorites, and really helped me think differently about food and about other kinds of nourishment, both for myself and for my daughter.

I know I will continue to make other changes using the tools I learned about in this program. If you’re a mom of a daughter and wondering whether to participate in one of Karen’s programs, I encourage you to do it!! You will get valuable information that can really improve your life!

Karen, thanks again for the great program!

Ingredient 4: Helping Your Daughter Feel “Big”
(be who she is!)

Many girls (and women) hold themselves back from expressing their biggest, most authentic dreams, desires and gifts in the world…for fear of failure, fear of upsetting someone else, concern about rocking the boat…for various reasons in our culture, they “learn” to be “nice” and pleasing, rather than true to themselves.  Feeling “big” gives a girl (and all of us!) a greater sense of purpose in her life (a protective factor in self-esteem and eating struggles).

The 7-Step Recipe will:

  • Teach you the things that may get in the way of your daughter’s bigness and how you can protect her from those factors

  • Share ideas about things you can do and say to support her biggest, most authentic self

  • Guide you in supporting her relationships with others without giving away her “self”

Ingredient 5:  Facilitating Authentic Connections

Our connections with our daughters are the “glue” that hold them together, even during the toughest time, yet it can sometimes be tricky to know how to negotiate truly authentic connections with them.  In addition, helping our daughters feel deeply connected to others in her life and a deeper sense of purpose is key in supporting her emotional wellbeing.

The 7-Step Recipe will:

  • Teach you how to create trust and closeness between you and your daughter (even during puberty and adolescence!), so you can really share her experiences, and so she’s more likely to turn to you when she’s got questions

  • Show you how to help her deal with (rather than stuff) feelings

  • Guide you in using your connection to support your daughter around difficult issues (including if she is overweight) so you become her ally rather than her enemy – SO IMPORTANT!

Ingredient 6:  Creating a Sense of Enoughness

So many people experience a “hunger” - for food, for a better body, a bigger bank account, more stuff. The girls of this generation often feel they have to “do everything and be everything” in order to be “good enough.” This constant striving for MORE is eating away at their sense of “enoughness” in who they are (which often affects how they “feed” themselves with food and how they feel in their bodies).

The 7-Step Recipe will:

  • Help you support your daughter in tuning into her own physical hunger (so she knows when she’s had enough and learns to be her own best guide)

  • Teach you how you can help her feel “good enough” in who she is, instead of needing to “have more, do more, be more” in order to feel good

  • Guide you in creating an “attitude of gratitude” in your family (a key factor in experiencing “enoughness”)

  • Show you how you can stop “doing it all” and share powerful, specific strategies to slow down and get out of overwhelm

If you’re wondering whether to take a class with Karen, my suggestion would be to “go for it!”

I participated in her “Dishing with Your Daughter: Creating True Nourishment for Her Body and Soul” 4-week teleseminar, and I really enjoyed it.

I especially loved how Karen facilitated a sense of connection with the other Moms in the program, she encouraged us to visualize what we wished for our daughters (a very powerful exercise), and her class covered a broad scope of topics. They were all very relevant to raising a daughter, and helped me to more fully recognize how I can seize the opportunity to instill healthy habits into my 7 year old, so she can grow to be self-reliant and make wise choices as she grows up.

I’ve already noticed a change in how I respond to my daughter – I’m getting frustrated with her FAR less than before and am able to recognize and proactively act upon the “teachable moments" more mindfully. And I’ve also started weekly menu planning!

I am looking forward to taking more classes with Karen, and am planning on recommending her upcoming programs to my friends. Karen is wonderful and I believe deeply in the messages she is teaching – I know many people can benefit from what she is offering! I highly recommend her classes - time well spent (in the class and long afterwards).

Ingredient 7:  Create a Safe Space

Because our daughters are bombarded every which way from messages that undermine their self-esteem, their sense of confidence in their own bodies, and their sense of “knowing” what’s good for them with food, our homes must be their “safe space” – a space they can come back to and know that they are thoroughly protected.

The 7-Step Recipe will show you:

  • How to become media savvy so you can help her decode and digest these powerful (mostly negative) messages

  • Specific things you can do to make your home her safest place (what you can get rid of in terms of food, media, comments and other below-the-radar messages and what you can add in)

  • How to create a sense of peace of mind in yourself knowing that you are providing her with this much-needed nourishment for her body and spirit

So now you know the ingredients...

But you may be wondering...

Karen, How EXACTLY Are You
Going to Teach Me All This?

Let me explain how it’s going to work.

I’ve designed this program to be an experience that you can both do at your own pace at home AND get support directly from me.  You’ll get cds and a workbook to listen to and work on at home. But rather than just handing you this to do alone and figure out on your own, and then put on a shelf somewhere, I’m going to hold your hand, with accountability and guidance and support, through 2 individual laser coaching sessions and 2 Q & A calls with other moms who are also working through the program. This will help you implement the changes that are most important to you. And that’s not all...You’ll also get once and twice weekly emails (for 5 weeks) with additional tips, ideas, strategies, recipes and activities to do with your daughter.

PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS NOT A PSYCHOTHERAPY PROGRAM!!  IT IS NOT A NUTRITIONAL PROGRAM!! THIS IS NOT MEANT TO TREAT AN EATING DISORDER OR ANY OTHER MENTAL HEALTH OR PHYSICAL HEALTH CONDITION.  This program is EDUCATIONAL and designed to teach, support and coach you toward a more powerful relationship with your daughter and to guide her on her journey.

Ok, now that we’re clear on that, let me share the specifics with you.

When You Join this Program,
You'll Receive...

5 CDs

You’ll receive 5 cds, which are of me speaking about and teaching you about each of the ingredients I described above.  They include information as well as tons of ideas, tips and strategies you can implement in your home right away.  (Because I recorded them in my living room, you may feel like you’re right there with me!).

Workbook

This 40 + page workbook corresponds to what you’ll be learning on the cds. It’s full of exercises, tips, questions, ideas, lists, and breakfast menus, and much more...

2 Live Q & A calls

We’ll meet as a group on the phone to reinforce what you’re learning on the cds, offer additional support on your journey, and answer all of your questions!

Recordings of each Q & A call

Although it’s great to be on the call, you don’t have to worry if you miss one, as you’ll get the recording shortly afterwards, so you won’t miss a thing!

2 15-minute laser coaching calls

These calls will help you get clear on what actions you can take – and what mind-shifts will be helpful – in order to best support your daughter on her journey. If you want, we can also talk about YOU, so you can really “be the change” in your own relationship with food and your body that you want her to model. These calls are designed to answer your questions and support YOU.

And, Some Great Bonuses!

Bonus #1:  Transcript of Teleclass with Dr. Josh Friedman:
Healing the Brain

Dr. Friedman is a psychologist who has studied with the best of the best when it comes to feeding the brain and eating for mental health. I send him all my clients who are not interested in medication, but who are looking to feel better, sleep better, reduce cravings, eat less, etc.  You will learn about EXACTLY what might be getting in the way of your own and your daughter’s balanced brain chemistry, and how to fix it. You will learn about food, supplements and other strategies.

Bonus #2: Grocery Store Guidance

Do you find shopping at the grocery store an overwhelming thing to do? Many of my clients have and I've created a tool that helps put clients at ease.

These are the notes I use when I take clients to the grocery store (this trip totally transforms the way they shop and eat!). Yes, you’ll get grocery lists too!

My entire family is benefiting from the
knowledge and advice you haven given me!

I wanted to let you know the impact you've had on me and my family. When I first met with you to discuss my six year old daughter's issues with food, I had no idea how unhealthy my family was eating. I learned so much from you about the benefits of eating real foods versus fake processed foods. I discovered there are simple yet delicious recipes that I can make and that I actually have time to make them. And I realized that a lot of the high-glycemic foods I have been giving my daughter were not satisfying her and only intensifying her cravings.

Thank you for helping me to better understand my daughter's sensitivity to sugar. After modifying my daughter's diet per your suggestions, I have seen a real change in her. She is less obsessed with sweets and more satisfied by healthier meals and snacks.

My entire family is benefiting from the knowledge and advice you have given me. Our eating habits will be forever changed for the better.

Karen's Class Helped me Learn to
Be Kinder to Myself

Karen's class brought ME to the present moment, and I became more centered and focused on caring for myself. Live your life, Karen said, as if you were at the perfect weight right now.

Karen said something that has stayed with me whenever I feel deprived because I "can't" eat something. She said it is not depriving yourself by not eating it, but rather it is depriving yourself of health and beauty if you eat things that you know adversely affect you. That change in mindset really made me look at my eating choices differently. I can eat whatever I want. But I want to feel good afterwards. I want to feel energized and healthy. What foods will do that for me?

Karen's class helped me learn to be kinder to myself. When I treat myself well, my body will respond to that care and love, just as anyone would. Diet does not need to be in my vocabulary if I listen to my body and hear what it is saying. Thank you Karen, for such an uplifting and life changing class!
